New album from New York based artist, critic, historian and theorist Joseph Nechvatal on PENTIMENTS, the third release of his on the label. Surreal and absurd aural delights, loads of tracks (but not too long overall!). Sound collage and musique concrete, humid, acidic and vortical. Balanced between rhythmic and abstract. Always lovely deep sound quality and incomparable presentation from this label. No corners cut! Has an excerpt of an interview inside the j-card briefly discussing his close engagement with NY no-wave when it all happened. This is definitely for anyone who cares about that ballpark. EDITION OF 100.
FROM THE LABEL:
Pentiments is delighted to welcome Joseph Nechvatal back into its proceedings with an hour’s worth of new sound works that continue his longstanding project of electro musique concrète noise collage imprudence. Tracks 3, 8, 12, 17, 23, and 26 feature Black Sifichi reading from Joseph Nechvatal’s book of poetry Destroyer of Naivetés mixed in with excerpts from the viral symphOny raw data file field recording, while tracks 7 and 10 are comprised of interventions with The Beatles’ infamous musique concrète piece “Revolution 9”, pulling its initial avant-garde impulse back into an ecstatic plenum of noise, wishing it might last forever. Featured on the front cover is Nechvatal’s 1986 painting Immortal Glossolalia Surrogate, a work typical of those in Nechvatal’s Fall 2025 exhibition Information Noise Saturation at Magenta Plains in NYC.
